SUPERHEROES

SENEREO:

Four boys are outside playing "super heroes".  Two boys are arguing over who gets to be Spiderman.  One boy yells, "Sammy wont let Alex be Spiderman"!!  Alex yells, "I want to be Spiderman"!!  Sammy yells, "I want to be Spiderman"!!

HELPFUL ADVICE:

Help the boys to share.  Tell them it is ok to have two Spiderans and two Batmans etc...  If that doesn't work then teach them how to take turns.  Tell them Alex can be Spiderman for 5 minutes and then Sammy can be Spiderman for 5 minutes.

REASON:

This will help the children to work it out in a healthy manner.  These choices teach taking turns, friendship and self help skills.

"SMALL BOO-BOOS"

SENEREO:

Sometimes a young child comes to you crying because they fell.  You saw them fall and you know it was just a little accident, but the child thinks it's a huge ordeal.

HELPFUL ADVICE:

Give the child acknowledgement by asking, "Are you ok?" Incourage them to rub it, blow on it and give it a kiss.

REASON:

Incouraging a child strengthens and empowers him or her with self help skills.  This also shows the child that you care by helping them to assess their "boo-boos" by rubbing it, attend to their "boo-boos" by blowing on it and then kissing it away.  Sometimes just showing that little extra attention is all they need to move on.
